SRC (VHF Radio)

Background
RYA Shorebased Training
The Short Range Certificate (SRC) course is a legal requirement for everyone operating a GMDSS/VHF marine radio
The previous VHF examination has now been replaced by a new SRC (Short Range Certificate) examination to include the GMDSS (Satellite distress system) requirements
This one-day course provides you with the requisite SR certificate to operate a ship or hand-held marine radio
The course includes basic VHF voice procedures and the use of GMDSS Computer simulation for the new automatic distress systems
Exam is by continuous assessment throughout the day. Depending on demand, this course can also be given over two half-days/evenings

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR ME?
Diesel Engine Course
If you intend to buy a new radio or fit one to your boat then you must have a certificate as well as a boat license
Many charter yachts now have DSC radios. If you already hold this license then you will only be required to attend a half-day update to convert to the SRC
If you have never previously held a license and have no certificate at present you will need the new full one-day (8 hour) course which covers VHF and DSC equipment
If you are uncertain of what you need, call us!
